Mitsubishi Ecodan - how does it work?

The Mitsubishi Ecodan is an air source heat pump, designed to generate renewable energy within your household.

Mitsubishi ecodan - how does it work?

Up to 4 times more efficient than traditional solutions, the Ecodan range provides households with more heat for less energy use.

One of the most advanced heating systems, the Mitsubishi Ecodan range – available at 50five – is the ideal solution for households wanting to sustain a more green and intelligent form of heating. Most air source heat pumps convert 75% outdoor air into heat, using just 25% of a home's electrical energy.

The Ecodan range works to reduce energy bills, lower the carbon footprint of a household and offer a more reliable form of heating and hot water. Remember – an air source heat pump can replace an existing heating system, or work alongside a current system in a hybrid setup.

Certified by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme, households are able to apply for the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme. With the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme households can be rewarded by the Government for going greener. Quarterly payments are made over seven years for installing the renewable technology into your home. These payments are designed to offset the additional amount paid to install the heat pump into homes vs. current technology.

One 50five customer recently had a Mitusbishi Ecodan air source heat pump installed, after having relied on wood burners and storage heaters for a number of years. Without the supply of gas to homes within his area, Mr. Turner found he was spending an unnecessary amount of money on coal and wood – which only spurred him on to find a more energy efficient, and affordable, heating solution. Read his story here.

So, how does an Ecodan work? Only requiring electricity and water, an outdoor unit is discretely installed to heat energy from the air and transfer it into your home. The hot water cylinder provides a continuous supply of hot water, just like a standard boiler. Using a wireless controller, you can then control the temperature of your home and when to release heat into the radiators – just like a regular thermostat.
